Is There a ‘Sign of Witchcraft in the Body?’ Have You Been Bewitched?

The best way to start this sermon is first by getting an understanding of the definition bewitched.

Bewitched: [bih-wich-ed]

  1. to affect by witchcraft or magic; cast a spell over.
  2. to enchant; charm; fascinate.
When looking at the key word affect, Not effect Affect means:to impress the mind or move the feelings of: The music affected him deeply. Now effect means:power to produce results; efficacy; force; validity; influence: His protest had no effect.
  3. the state of being operative or functional; operation or execution; accomplishment or fulfillment: to bring a plan into effect.
  4. a mental or emotional impression produced, as by a painting or a speech.
  5. meaning or sense; purpose or intention: She disapproved of the proposal and wrote to that effect.

The Encyclopedia Britannia defines bewitched in the following way:

bē̇ -wich (ἐξίστημι , exı́stēmi )

There are two Greek words in the New Testament translated “bewitch.” The one given above (Acts 8:9, Acts 8:21 the King James Version “bewitched,” the Revised Version (British and American) “amazed”) has reference to the work of Simon Magus. It means “to be out of one’s mind,” “to astonish,” “to overwhelm with wonder.” The other word, βασκαίνω , baskaı́nō (Galatians 3:1), means “to fascinate by false representation.”

The Apostle complains they have been led to accept a teaching wholly contrary to the Gospel of Christ. Both these words reveal to us something of the difficulty the early teachers had to eradicate the idea so widely held by the Jews and Egyptians especially, that there were certain powers, dark and mysterious, which by certain occult forces they could control. For a long time this had to be contended with as one of the corrupt practices brought into the church by the converts, both from Judaism and heathenism.

These words have a reference to the evil eye which for centuries was, and even today is, an important factor in the life of the people of the East. 1 Timothy 6:20 is a reference to this thought and explains the word “science” (the King James Version) as there used.

So there are people who are claiming to be of God because of a gift or because of their involvement with the spirit of witchcraft through some form of mind control or through emotions. Now I ask you, if a person is jacked up emotionally and hasn’t been restored, what type of wisdom are you going to get from them? If someone has a problem with someone and their life is always surrounded in controversy, and they have no relationship with God and they’re not assembling themselves with others as the Word of God said not to fail to do. They are like a ship on the ocean without a rudder, being tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine.

James 1:6-7 says, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. and also inches book of:”

We see also in Ephesians 4:11-14, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;”

In my conclusion Galatians 3:1 says, “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?”

Does Satan fight against demons, or do demon fight against the true people of God? Son if your life is wrapped up in this life how can you see the truth? Demons can come to you as angels of light appearing to be the voice of God to cause you to go astray from your focus. So think about this: are all you feeling positive and on point as you did months ago or are you feeling some kind of way about you life? If so then it’s time to press pause and selah (reflect over what’s been said). The Bible says that there is a way that seems right to a man or a woman but, their end is the way of death. Has someone stolen your focus, joy, God’s will, and heart from you. Remember God is not the author of confusion, Satan and the demons are. So I ask you again: who’s report do you believe?

Luke 10:17-19 says, “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

You Need to Let it Go

Philippians 3:13

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.

Memory: The power or process of remembering.

If your not careful, your past may become your future. If you are being bound by issues of the past, then those same issues will cause you to be bound in your life in Christ. The only way to obtain forgiveness for these things that cause you to be bound is to place them before God. Not asking for forgiveness leaves it to harbor in your life, and show up in your personal relationships. For example at work, with your children or with your family.
We as a people, if things seem to be going good for our benefit, we tend to block out everything concerning our hurts pains and anguish, right out of our minds. Sometimes we will even hold memories against one another, for the purpose of manipulating or controlling; and such is sorcery. The greek word for control or sorcery is pharmakeia which is where we get our modern word for pharmacy. Pharmakeia equals drugs, magic and witchcraft.

1 Samuel 15:23

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou has rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee…

Many of us have been practicing witchcraft and sorcery unbeknownst to us. If you continue to do these things they become apart of you. And it becomes a cancer that you spread to others around you. Here are a list of things associated with sorcery:

1)You’ve heard the phrase “I hate you.” The word hate or hatred in greek is echthra, meaning hostilities and bitterness. When you see this it is contrary to being a Child of Christ.
1 John 3:15
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

2) Jealously. The greek word for jealously is zelos meaning heat, envy, indignation, emulation, or from the term zeal which means hot or boiled.

3) Dissension. Greek word for dissension dichostasia meaning division and sedition. This word is only mentioned in the bible 3 times in the new testament. Each time it talks about sin. Division and sedition are the tools that Satan uses often; bringing something or someone into your life that causes you to have second thoughts, and in Christ, you can’t have second thoughts. He tries to divide and conquer you for the purpose of breaking you down making you give over to his will. If you are overloaded  with stress, you cant reason, and aren’t receptive to wisdom beneficial to your growth.

4) Fornication. Greek word is pornia which is sexual impurity, and where our modern word porn comes from. It can be spiritual. This includes premarital sex, homosexuality or any sexual activity outside of the sanctity of marriage.
1 Corinthians 6:15-20

5) Uncleanness. Akatharsia meaning impure or foul; demonic.
2 Corinthians 7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

These are the questions you need to ask yourself:
a) In any situation, what is your response? Would it be pleasing to God or man? Colossians 3:23 “and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men”
b) What would be the consequences of that situation? Galatians 6:1-18
c) Will it be a stumbling block to others? 1 Corinthians 8:1-10
d) Could you thank God for it? Colossians 3 emphases on verse 17
e) Would you be able to ask God to bless it? Proverbs 10:22
d) Would yo want to be doing this when Jesus returns?
f) Have you sought Godly council or advice?
If you answered no to any of these above, then you need to seek the face of God before you go any further.

In conclusion, it is for each child of God to walk out their faith in Him.
